Angela Homan

Bethlehem, Pa. - Angela Homan captured her second individual title of the 2004 season at the 31st annual New Balance Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. The Auburn men's team finished third and the women came in 10th.

With a new personal best time of 20:27.39 in the 6K, Homan continued her success this season as she won her second individual title. In the season opener two weeks ago, Homan dominated the field at the Georgia State Invite to get her season off to a triumphant start.

"This was Angela's first big invitational," head cross country coach Chris Fox stated. "With her performance today I think she has established herself as one of the top five or six runners in the country."

Kylee Swanson was Auburn's second runner to cross the finish line as she took 26th with a time of 21:42.73. Dawn Morgan, Alicia Torres, Alayne Thompson, Megan Karl and Danielle Keplinger also ran for the Tigers. The women's team earned 281 points to place 10th.

On the men's side, Andrew Heath continued to pace the Tigers, as he finished 10th with a time of 24:20.00, a new personal best in the 8K. Just two weeks ago, Heath won the Georgia State Invitational to lead his team to a team title as well.

Chris George placed 14th in the 163-runner field with a time of 24:29.68. Chris Walsh was the third Tiger to finish, as she came in 27th (24:51.75). Patrick Philbin, David Riddle, Matt Tillman and Patrick Mouser also competed for Auburn. With 119 points, Auburn came in third behind Georgetown and Villanova.

"This was the best men's race we have had since I have been head coach," Fox stated. "We beat three or four teams that are ranked in the top-20 and the two teams that beat us are among the top ten in the nation. I think all of our guys set new personal records today and I am very excited to see our men's team make great provements as the season goes on."

The Tigers host the Auburn Invitational on October 11th at the Indian Pines Golf Course. The men's 8K is slated to begin at 9 a.m. with the women's 6K to follow.
