Arkansas scored at least one run in all but two innings as the #15 Razorbacks downed Auburn, 10-5, on Friday night at Baum Stadium. Bruce Edwards and Luke Greinke each hit their first home runs of the season in the loss for the Tigers.
Edwards, getting a last-minute start in place of a sick Jeff Boutwell, went 3-for-4 on the night with a single, a double and his first home run since last season's NCAA Regionals to go along with two RBIs.
Arkansas (37-17, 17-12 SEC) scored in every inning but the fifth and eighth, chasing Auburn starter Evan Crawford (5-8) after just 2.1 innings, his shortest outing of the year. Crawford was tagged for six runs on nine hits.
Arkansas starter Daryl Maday (2-1) picked up the win for the Hogs, going 5.0 innings and surrendering three runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Arkansas got on the board first with three consecutive two-out singles in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
Edwards' RBI double down the line in right scored Russell Dixon (1-for-3) to knot the game at 1-1 in the top of the second.
After Arkansas reclaimed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second, Greinke (1-for-5, 2 RBI) belted his first career home run, a blast that went halfway up the berm in the Hog Pen in left to make it 3-3. It was just the second extra-base hit of the season and second in his last eight at bats for Greinke.
After falling behind 8-3 after the bottom of the sixth, AU cut into the lead in the top of the seventh. Edwards smacked his second career homer over the bullpen in right to lead off the inning and then Andy Bennett's (1-for-4) flair single into center scored Tyler Johnstone from second to make it 8-5 Hogs.
Arkansas tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh for the final margin.
Auburn's bullpen again was good for the Tigers as Brett Butts and Johnny Thompson pitched 5.2 combined innings, surrendering four runs, only two of which were earned, on six hits with four punch outs.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 22-33 on the year, 9-20 SEC.
The two teams close out the series and Auburn's season on Saturday at 12:05 p.m. CT. Auburn will send junior righty Chris Dennis (3-6) to the mound while the Hogs send Shaun Seibert (3-0) to the hill.
