The Auburn University tennis team finished competition at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Saturday. The Tigers went 5-2 in singles and 3-2 in doubles.
"I am really proud of the kid's effort today," head coach Tim Gray said. "I thought the new players did well and there were a lot of bright spots today."
In singles play, sophomore Fani Chifchieva defeated Martina Banikova of Mississippi State, 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Alex Haney, seeded number one, picked up a win over Kelcy Tefft of Notre Dame, 6-4, 6-1, while freshman Melissa Koning beat Deandra Saddler of Mississippi State, 6-4, 6-3. The other two singles wins came from sophomore Kelly Adams who defeated Sarah Templeton of UNC-Greensboro, 6-0, 7-6 and freshman Heather Bybee, who beat Christie Baker of Samford, 6-0, 6-0.
On the doubles side, Haney/Chifchieva defeated Ulery/Sveke of Vanderbilt, 8-3. Chappell/Koning beat Joseph/Feit of Mississippi State, 8-3 and Adams/Hasternath defeated McMiller/McKey of Samford, 9-8.
The Tigers finished the tournament with records of 14-7 in singles, 6-2 in doubles and the squad went 7-3 against SEC foes.
