Auburn Women Finish Second At Auburn Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. -

The Auburn women's cross country team finished in second place with 93 points on a beautiful morning at the 14th Annual Auburn Invitational at Indian Pines Golf Course in Auburn, Ala. The men's team did not fare as well as the women, as they finished 15th with 353 points.

""We are very happy with how everything went today, especially with the women," head coach Peter Watson said. "When we come home, we want to represent Auburn University very well, so it's a big meet for us."

On the women's side, the Tigers were led by freshmen Miriam Arusei (17:19.21) and Sabrina Fischer (17:19.46), who finished ninth and tenth, respectively. Junior Megan Karl set personal bests with her 16th place finish and a time of 17:42.10. Rounding out the scoring runners for AU were freshman Laurel Pritchard (17:57.64), who finished in 25th and junior Jessica Smith (18:18.17), who placed 42nd.

Also competing for Auburn were junior Becca Bell (54th) and Laura Steele (76th), as well as freshmen Katelyn Simpson (128th) and Kristen Hiott (147th) and sophomore Katie Stringfellow (134th).

No. 17 Iowa took home the team title with 16 points. The Hawkeyes had runners finish in the first four spots, and five of the first six, including overall champion Diane Nukuri (16:10.12) who finished 16 seconds ahead of fellow runner Meghan Armstrong.

On the men's side, Auburn featured just one runner (junior Zach Olsen) with any experience at the Auburn Invitational. The Tigers were led by sophomore Chase Oliver (25:32.27), who finished 53rd and junior Elliot Smith (25:38.11) who placed 59th. Freshman Simon Nyang (26:26.58) placed 91st, freshman Scott Novack (26:50.79) finished 111th and freshman Mark Fleming (26:53.06) placed 112th.

Also running for Auburn were freshmen David Wall (114th) and Josh Pawlik (115th), as well as Zach Olsen (135th).

Stephen F. Austin took home the title with three runners in the top-10. Barnabus Kirui of Ole Miss ran away with the individual title after a time of 23:28.65.
