The Auburn women's cross country team finished fourth while the men finished fifth at the UTC Invitational on Friday, Sept. 8.
On the women's side, UTC finished first with 20 points. The rest of the teams finished as follows: Samford (51), Lipscomb (56), Auburn (103), MTSU (141) and Tennessee State (172).
Junior Jessica Smith finished in 13th, followed by freshman Kristen Hiott in 17th, junior Becca Bell in 21st, freshman Amy Shaffer in 25th and sophomore Laura Steele in 27th. Junior Denise Daughenbaugh finished in 28th, but did not count in the team score.
On the men's side, Alabama finished first with 22 points. The rest of the men's results are as follows: Tennessee (60), UTC (69), Samford (86), Auburn (108), Lipscomb (160), MTSU (209).
Freshman Simon Nyang led the men by finishing in 14th, followed by sophomore Chase Oliver in 18th, freshman Scott Novack in 20th, junior Elliot Smith in 27th and freshman Mark Flemming in 29th. Freshman David Wall placed in 35th and Zach Olsen finished 37th, but did not count in the team score.
The team will next be in action at the Great American Cross Country Festival on Sept. 23 in Hoover, Ala.
