The No. 16 Auburn Tigers collected 10 individual career records, including one new school record, en route to a 196.475-193.800 victory over No. 25 Kentucky on Friday at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. The team's total score tied for the ninth highest in school history.
"We started off well and stayed hot, which is important in this sport," head coach Jeff Thompson said.
Junior Julie Dwyer set a new school record in the all-around with a score of 39.625. The Bloomington, Ind., native also set new career bests on vault (9.950) and beam (9.950).
"Julie Dwyer is a stud," Thompson said. "She didn't practice all week because she was sick, but she still managed to give us a solid performance."
Sophomore A.J. Mills tied for second in the all-around with fellow sophomore Lindsey Puckett, as each scored a 39.425. The mark was a new career best for Mills. Junior Kayla Gies, competing in her first career all-around, totaled a 38.950.
The Tigers opened the dual meet on vault, scoring a season-high 49.075, and finishing with the two of the top-three individual scores. Leading the way for the Tigers was Dwyer, who finished with a career-high 9.95, beating her old mark of 9.925. A.J. Mills set her own career-high with a 9.850, squashing her old mark of 9.750 that she set last week. Puckett vaulted a 9.825, while Kayla Gies posted a 9.775 and Krissy Voss finished with a 9.675.
On the second rotation, leading 49.075-48.725, AU scored another season high with a 49.075 on bars. Auburn took the top-four individual spots, led by Dwyer and Mills' season highs of 9.850, respectively. Puckett reeled in a season high, 9.825, with Gies totaling a career high 9.800. Voss also recorded a season high, scoring a 9.750.
Leading 98.150-97.650, the Tigers headed into the third rotation where they scored a third season high of 49.150. Dwyer led the way on beam with another career high of 9.950, followed by Mills' career-best 9.925. Puckett secured another season high of 9.875, while Somero and Gies each totaled 9.700's.
Auburn headed into the final rotation with a commanding 147.300-145.900 lead. Puckett posted the high score with a mark of 9.900, which tied a career high. Dwyer finished right behind her with a 9.875, while Carmen Nelms posted a season best, 9.825. Mills posted another career high after totaling a 9.800, and Claire Seiffert posted a season best, 9.775.
The Tigers will head to Tuscaloosa next Friday, Jan. 26 to take on No. 4 Alabama. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:30 Central.
