Tampa, Fla. - For the second day in a row the 40th-ranked Auburn men's tennis team picked up five singles and two doubles victories at the South Florida Invitational. The Tigers swept Flight A and C singles with wins from Alex Schweizer, Robbert Lathouwers, Terence Nugent and Stephen Nash. Auburn concludes the USF Invite on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
Day two at the USF Invite was a repeat of Friday's action as the same five Tigers picked up singles wins. In Flight A, Schweizer and Lathouwers made quick work of South Florida's Henning Hipp and Marc Jaeger, respectively, winning in straight sets. Lukas Marsoun defeated Thomas Estrada in Flight B singles, 6-3, 6-4.
The Tigers swept Flight C as Nugent and Nash prevailed; both ended the second set 7-6 for the win over Mark Gattiker and Keith Embress, respectively.
"We saw some improvement today in the matches," head coach Eric Shore said. "Alex continues to play well and overall I saw better things from us today. Hopefully we can finish strong tomorrow as we prepare for our home opener next weekend."
In doubles action, the AU duo of Lathouwers and Marsoun were looking for a win after losing on Friday and that is exactly what they got, 8-4, over Mahmoud Hamad and Estrada. Nugent and Nash continued to roll in Flight B doubles, taking the win for the second straight day, 8-5, over Daniel Daudt and Gattiker.
South Florida's Hamad defeated Dilaj, 6-2, 6-2 in Flight B singles and William Sousa overcame Auburn's Nick Maurillo in Flight D, 6-4, 6-2. Schweizer and Dilaj battled it out with Henning Hipp and Jaeger, but the Bulls came out on top, 8-6. Hunter Mills and Maurillo were defeated, 8-5, by Embree and William Sousa.
