The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Auburn men's tennis team swept the Samford Bulldogs, 7-0, in its season opener Saturday afternoon at the Auburn University Tennis Complex.

"Samford gave us a good test," head coach Eric Shore said. "Some of those matches were really close. I think we competed very well overall. We have some things to work on to get ready for the next few weeks."
The Tigers were ahead early after they swept the Bulldogs in the doubles matches. They never looked back, cruising to a 7-0 finish. Auburn lost only one set the entire day and lost less than five games in all; two of the games were in the singles matches.
In the doubles, Robbert Lathouwers and Lukas Marsoun defeated Renan Silveira and Sam Huffman in straight sets, 8-6. Milan Krnjetin and Alexy Tsyrenov beat Stuart Misner and Hank Grant, 8-5. That win ensured Auburn the doubles point, but the Tigers weren't done yet as Terence Nugent and Pawel Dilaj rounded out the doubles sweep by defeating Brin Dushock and Manuel Miletic, 8-3.
Auburn's No.1, Lathouwers, looked impressive in his win against Renan Silveira of Samford as he won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. That helped the Tigers to a 3-0 lead after Marsoun took the No. 2 match, 6-2, 6-2 over Samford's Stuart Misner.
Everything would continue to go Auburn's way as the No. 4 match finished and Krnjetin emerged victorious over Manuel Miletic, 6-4, 6-0. He was then followed by Nugent who won the No. 6 match, defeating Bradley Weaver, 6-3, 6-4.
Dilaj added to the scoring as he won his match in the No. 3 spot against Hank Grant, 6-2, 6-4. The last match to finish was also probably the most exciting as Alexey Tsyrenov won at No. 5 in a tiebreaker, 7-5, 6-7, 10-5. His victory ensured the shutout and gave Auburn the 7-0 victory.
The Tigers will return to action on Feb. 4 as they take on North Florida at 1:30 p.m., at the Auburn University Tennis Complex.
