The No. 21 Auburn baseball team could not overcome seven errors that led to seven unearned runs as it fell to Florida, 12-9, on Saturday afternoon at Plainsman Park.
For the fifth straight game Auburn (18-8, 0-5 SEC) jumped out to a lead only to see the opposition match its output and surge past the Tigers. Saturday it was a seven-run seventh inning that doomed the Tigers as Florida (13-13, 3-2 SEC) scored its seventh-inning runs on three singles, an error, a hit-batsman and five walks.
The top five hitters in Auburn's batting order had a productive afternoon as Bruce Edwards (2-for-4, R), Luke Greinke (2-for-5, 2 R, RBI), Josh Donaldson (1-for-3, 2 R), Mike Bianucci (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Robert Brooks (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) were a combined 10-for-21, scored nine runs and drove in five.
Edwards also moved up the Auburn record books, stealing two bases to give him 16 on the season and 45 for his career, moving him into sole possession of ninth-place on Auburn's career list for steals.
The bullpen and the Auburn defense could not hold the 5-4 lead it was given following Paul Burnside's six-inning outing (8 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks without recording a strikeout.
Justin Bristow (1-2) took the loss for Auburn, allowing five runs on three hits without recording an out.
Josh Edmondson (2-1) earned the win for Florida, going 4.2 innings and allowing three runs on five hits.
David Hurst earned his second save of the season.
The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday at 2pm CT. The game will be televised live on CSS.
