TULSA, Okla. - Auburn's Alexey Tsyrenov saw his run at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships end in the fourth round of pre-qualifying Sunday as he fell 6-3, 7-5 to Louisville's Austen Childs.
Tsyrenov, a junior from Chita, Russia, opened his day with a win over Central Florida's Brock Sakey, 6-0, 6-3 before moving on to his fourth-round meeting with Childs.
"Alexey played pretty good in his first match and struggled in the second match," said head men's tennis coach Eric Shore. "He had some chances in there against Childs, but overall it was a good start for him."
Opening the season with one of the toughest tournaments all year, Shore said he is pleased with how his players performed and is excited to see how they develop with more match experience.
"I like the direction that we are headed right now and we will only get better with more actual match experience," said Shore.
The Tigers will get the chance soon for more experience as Auburn returns to action Oct. 5-7 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
