Auburn Men's Cross Country Ranked No. 25

Sept. 16, 2008

AUBURN - The Auburn men's cross country team is ranked No. 25 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the national poll was released Tuesday. The men's team was also announced as the No. 2 squad in the NCAA South Region.

Auburn is led by returning NCAA qualifier Felix Kiboiywo and junior college transfer Elkanah Kibet. The Tigers opened the season Sept. 5 at the Powerade Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn., and claimed first through fourth place individually and claimed the team title.

"This is a great honor for our program," head coach Peter Watson said. "The guys on this team have great pride in Auburn and in Auburn cross country. They want to be part of something special and start a tradition of excellence. We are on the right road. Top 25 is a great start. Now we have to go about putting in the work and getting results to prove we deserve this ranking. We have high expectations for this team and if we all stay healthy, we will see how far we can go."

The voting panel for the USTFCCCA Division I Men's National Poll consists of the elected executive committee and regional representatives of the USTFCCCA and is conducted by Don Kopriva.

The 2008 Division I Cross Country National meet will be held on Nov. 24, 2008 in Terre Haute, Ind.
