Stamchev And Marsoun Fall In Doubles Final At Florida State Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Auburn's Alex Stamchev and Lukas Marsoun claimed runner-up honors Monday in the doubles bracket at the Florida State Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.

The freshman and senior team of Stamchev and Marsoun downed three opponents on Saturday and Sunday to reach the championship match versus the brothers of Louisville, Simon and Austen Childs.

Marsoun and Stamchev were not able to put away the title, however, as they fell to Louisville, 8-5.

Stamchev and Marsoun also competed in consolation singles play that eventually pegged them against each other in the semifinal round, but play was stopped before the two teammates had a chance to play each other.

Stamchev defeated Sander Gile (East Tennessee State) in the first round,6-2, 6-1, and then came from behind to defeat Simon Childs, 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(1), in order to reach Marsoun.

Marsoun also won his first two matches to reach the semifinals. In the first round he slid past Gregory Bekkers (Georgia Southern), 6-2, 6-3. He then defeated Chris Reiman (Florida State) in the quarterfinals.

Nick Maurillo also won his Monday consolation match. He defeated Drew Bailey (Florida State), 6-4, 6-4.

The Tigers will return to action Thursday at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va.
