Day One Done At Texas Invitational; Men And Women In Third

AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 5/7 Auburn swimming team concluded day one of the Texas Swimming & Diving Hall Of Fame Invitational Thursday evening at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas. The men sit tied for third with California-Davis with 125 points, while the women are in third with 163 points.

"We raced better tonight with two team objectives in mind; to swim better than the morning and take interest in the team," Brett Hawke, head coach, said. "We hit both of our objectives and that is a great thing. We're swimming very tired, but very tough. I'm happy with the attitude of the team right now."

The men opened up the evening with a NCAA "B" cut time in the 200 free relay. The team of Kohlton Norys, Tyler McGill, Karl Krug and Gideon Louw finished third in a time of 1:19.34. McGill picked another B time when the senior captain finished fourth in the 100 fly in 47.59. Louw finished the day with a B time of 20.25 and an eighth-place finish in the 50 free.

The 400 medley relay squad of Pascal Wollach, Stuart Ferguson, McGill and Louw finished fifth in a B time of 3:17.12. Other Tigers picking up team-best finishes were Brandon Siemasko and Andrew Mitchell. Siemasko took 21st in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.38, while Mitchell finished 11th in the 200 IM in 1:49.94.

The women took fourth in the 200 free relay to start the night. The quad of Melissa Marik, Hannah Riordan, Caitlin Geary and Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace touched the wall in 1:32.99.

Sophomore Stephanie Horner picked up a B time of 4:52.38 in the 500 free to finish 10th overall. Senior Ava Ohlgren and sophomore Micah Lawrence battled in the B Final of the 200 IM, finishing ninth (2:02.74) and 10th (2:02.98), respectively.

Representing Auburn in the A Final of the 50 free was Vanderpool-Wallace. The sophomore finished eighth in 23.33. The team of Marik, Lawrence, Ohlgren and Riordan closed out the day with a fifth-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:44.61).

The swimmers return to competition for day two of the Texas Invitational Friday with the preliminaries starting at 10 a.m., while the finals kick off at 6 p.m. The Auburn diving team begins competition at the Georgia Invitational in Athens on Friday.
