HOOVER, Ala. -- Auburn cross country runners Ben Cheruiyot and Holly Knight finished in the Top 10 at the NCAA South Regional Championships Saturday at Veterans Park in Hoover, Ala., to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Cheruiyot, the junior from Eldoret, Kenya, ran 30 minutes, 19.33 seconds in the men's 10K race to finish seventh, and earn an individual spot to the NCAA Championship.

"Ben ran a smart and conservative race to secure his individual spot," head coach Mark Carroll said. "His focus will now switch to the NCAA meet."

Knight, a senior from Devon, England, had a personal-best day running 19:57.68 in the women's 6K to finish fifth.

"Holly ran a personal best again for the 6K distance, and secured her NCAA spot with a fifth place finish," Carroll said.

Both runners now turn their focus to making their second trip to the NCAA Championships Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.

"Holly and Ben will take a couple of days to recover from today's efforts, and then start their preparation for the NCAA meet in Terra Haute," Carroll said.
