AUBURN - Auburn track and field athletes won seven event titles as the Tigers hosted the Tiger Track Classic Saturday at Hutsell-Rosen Track. The Tigers, who also had the top collegiate mark in three other events that included unattached athletes, won three relays, two distance races, one sprint and one field event.

"It was just our second meet of the year and we're still easing into things," said head coach Ralph Spry. "I feel really good about how some of our kids stepped up today. We posted some fast times and good marks in the field events and won quite a few events. Overall I'd say I'm pleased with our performance."

Auburn had the top two finishers in the men's 100 meters in a near dead heat that put them atop the national leaderboard. Freshman Keenan Brock won with a time of 10.21 seconds, while sophomore Harry Adams was a close second, also in 10.21 seconds. Entering the weekend, the fastest time in the nation was also 10.21 seconds. Their times rank sixth and seventh in Auburn history.

Auburn cruised to victories in both the men's and women's 4x100-meter relays. In the women's race, the team of senior Joanna Atkins, senior Sheniqua Ferguson, sophomore Kai Selvon and junior Nivea Smith clocked a time of 43.80 seconds that ranks second in the NCAA this year and seventh in school history. In the men's event, senior Stephen Fly, Adams, freshman Clay Porter and Brock won with a time of 40.17 seconds.

The Tigers also won the women's 4x400-meter relay, with the team of Atkins, Smith, Ferguson and Selvon posting a time of 3:38.82.

Redshirt freshman Stephen Saenz won the discus for the second weekend in a row with a top throw of 52.84 meters (173-4) to edge Mke Schallmo of Duke by one inch.

Senior Holly Knight breezed to an easy victory in the women's 1500 meters, recording a time of 4:26.68 that ranks seventh in Auburn outdoor history. She finished nearly 10 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.

In the final event of the evening, junior Ben Cheruiyot won the men's 3,000 meters, breaking the facility record with a time of 8:09.10.

Freshman DJ Smith was second overall but first among collegians in the men's high jump, clearing 2.18 meters (7-1.75) for the second straight week. He trailed only former Tiger and world champion Donald Thomas, who jumped 2.30 meters (7-6.5).

In the women's high jump, sophomore Maya Pressley was also second overall and first among collegians with a leap of 1.75 meters (5-8.75).

Senior Cache Armbrister finished third overall but first among collegiate runners in the women's 400 meters, recording a time of 54.41 seconds.
