PALO ALTO, Calif. - Auburn's No. 12-ranked doubles team of Tim Puetz and Daniel Cochrane defeated Fresno State's No. 15 duo of Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier, 7-5, 7-6 (2) in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the campus of Stanford University.

"It was good match," Puetz said. "We were really focused. They played well, and we played well. We only were broken once in the first set, so this match came down to just a few points. I was really happy with the outcome especially after my match yesterday."

In the first set, the Tigers dropped the first two games, but battled back and took the set 7-5. In the second set, Auburn forced a tiebreaker where the pair won 7-2 to win the match.

With the win, Auburn's top duo moves to 15-7 on the season. The duo competed at Auburn's front spot throughout the season, taking four wins over top-50 opponents.

Puetz and Cochrane will play the winner of Texas A&M's Jeff Dadamo/Austin Krajicek and Virginia's Alex Domijan/Jarmere Jenkins match tomorrow in the second round of the tournament.
