PALO ALTO, Calif. - Auburn's No. 12-ranked doubles team of Tim Puetz and Daniel Cochrane had their championship run ended by Texas A&M's No. 3 duo of Jeff Dadamo and Austin Krajicekin, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round of the NCAA Doubles Championship at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the campus of Stanford University.
"We played really well in the first set," Puetz said. "In the second and third set we played two or three loose games. They were serving really well. We couldn't do much when they served. We did all we could."
In the first set, jumped ahead early and took the set 6-3, but the Aggies came storming back in the second set winning 6-1. The Tigers fell in the third set 6-2.
With the loss, Auburn's top pair finishes to 15-8 on the season. The duo competed at Auburn's front spot throughout the season, taking four wins over top-50 opponents.
The loss ends Puetz's career at Auburn after graduating in May with a degree in economics. The Germany native finishes his career as a Tiger with the second most doubles victories in Auburn history with 89, third overall in singles victories with 93, and second in combined victories with 182. Cochrane will return to the squad next season as a sophomore.
"I've had so many good memories here at Auburn," Puetz claimed. "The four years here were the best years of my life. It has been great. It didn't end the way I wanted it to end, but I had a great season."
