Several Tigers Shine on Day One at VT Elite

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Auburn track and field got started on Friday at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet with several strong performance and one key event win on the opening day of action.

Alissa Fisher picked up her first race win of the season in the women's 3000m run. The junior finished nearly 15 seconds ahead of her closest competition with a time of 9:34.01 in her first 3000m race of the season.

After placing a pair of sprinters in the 60m finals, neither was able to come up with a win, and Ashley Cruder finished sixth and Nivea Smith crossed the finish line seventh in 7.47 and 7.49 seconds, respectively.

CeCe Williams had a solid day in the 400m open race, where she a season-best time en route to a second place finish behind Virginia Tech's Zakiya Tyson.

Auburn put three men in the finals of the 60 meters, led by junior Harry Adams. He was joined by sophomore Keenan Brock and junior Jeremy Hardy. In the final, the Auburn men placed 3-4-5, led by Adams in third in 6.62 seconds. Brock followed in 6.63 seconds and Hardy was fifth in 6.71 seconds.

Hardy also placed second in the 200m dash open race in 21.62 seconds .

Running in the 3000m for the first time in 2012, sophomore Niklas Buhner placed second and was the top collegiate runner in 8:22.10.

Action continues on Saturday with the women's high jump at 10 a.m. CT and continues through the men's 4x400m relay set for 2:20 p.m. CT. Live results can be found HERE.
