TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 23 Auburn baseball team fell at Alabama for the third straight game on Sunday, losing 6-2. The loss dropped Auburn's record to 17-14, 6-6 SEC.
Alabama improved to 13-19, 4-8 SEC and completed a sweep of Auburn for the first time since 2002.
"Offensively we had one guy on to start an inning and then we made some miscues defensively and they took advantage of it," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said.
Alabama starter Jon Keller (1-1) earned the win, allowing just one run on seven hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings, striking out six.
Daniel Koger (2-2) was tagged with the loss, surrendering three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in five innings, his shortest outing since opening weekend against Missouri.
Up 1-0 after scoring an unearned run in the second, Alabama padded its lead to 3-0 in the fifth on a Brett Booth two-run home run.
Justin Bryant's solo home run in the sixth narrowed the margin to 3-1 but Alabama answered with three runs in the seventh, scoring on a Jared Reaves sac fly, a Ben Moore single and a Bryant throwing error to go up 6-1.
Auburn loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, scoring a single run on a Dan Glevenyak sacrifice fly for the game's final score.
Auburn out-hit Alabama, 11-9, the second game on the weekend in which Auburn had more hits than Alabama but lost.
Auburn returns to the field at 6pm Tuesday when it plays host to Samford.
