ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia jumped out to a five-run lead after two innings and never looked back in completing a sweep with a 9-3 defeat of Auburn on Sunday. The loss dropped Auburn's record to 25-22, 10-14 SEC while Georgia improved to 27-20, 12-12 SEC with two SEC series remaining for both clubs.

"We didn't get out of the gates very well. In the second we made a mistake and they hit a big home run and the battle was uphill at that point," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said. "We couldn't get over that hurdle and it set us back on our heels."

Georgia used three singles to take a 1-0 lead in the first before Kyle Farmer's three-run home run over the tree line in left staked Georgia to a 5-0 lead after two complete. That would be all for Auburn starting pitcher Trey Cochran-Gill (4-2), who allowed five runs on seven hits with a pair of strike outs.

Auburn's Justin Bryant was able to keep Georgia off the board with two scoreless frames but it was short-lived as Georgia scored three times off of Slade Smith to take an 8-1 lead after seven and tacked on a final run off of Dillon Ortman in the eighth.

Georgia's Luke Crumley (2-2) earned the win for Georgia, tossing five complete innings, allowing a run on six hits and a walk, striking out three.

Jay Gonzalez, Garrett Cooper and Blake Austin each drove in runs for Auburn. Gonzalez singled in a run in the fourth, Cooper doubled in a run in the eighth and Austin singled in another run in the eighth when Auburn cut the lead to 8-3.

Creede Simpson paced the Auburn offense with two hits and a stolen base, his 19th of the season.

Auburn returns home for a midweek game, playing host to Presbyterian at 6pm on Tuesday before hitting the road for a three-game series at Arkansas that begins on Thursday in Fayetteville, Ark. Thursday's game will air live on ESPNU.
