Cross Country Closes Regular Season at Crimson Classic

Oct. 11, 2012

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Auburn cross country will compete in its final tune up event before the SEC Cross Country Championships on Saturday when it comes at the Crimson Classic hosted by the University of Alabama at Harry Pritchett Running Park.

"The Louisville Classic was a solid run, especially on the men's side," Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll said. "It was a solid run, but not a good run. We know now what we needed to do going forward to the Crimson Classic and then on to the SEC meet. We've begun to sharpen up and everyone is responding well. This weekend, we have a few SEC teams there, so it will a good pre-SEC competition for us. This meet is one where we hope we can come out with a win. That would be a great confidence booster for us going into SECs."

Both the men's and women's teams had a weekend off following a tough run at the Greater Louisville Classic. Both teams are trying to get back to winning ways after winning their first three events of the season.

Alissa Fisher was the top finisher for the Auburn women in Louisville with a mark of 18:03.44, while Samuel Mueller (24:47.29) and Niklas Buhner (24:49.50) led the men's charge.

The men's 8k race in Tuscaloosa is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., while the women's 5k will commence at 9:10 a.m. Other SEC programs scheduled to compete at the Crimson Classic include Mississippi State, Tennessee and the host Crimson Tide.
