Buhner, Fisher Finish in Top Five at Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Auburn cross country runners Niklas Buhner and Alissa Fisher each finished in the top five in their respective races on Saturday at the Crimson Classic hosted by the University of Alabama.

"I'm really pleased with how we performed today," Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll said. "Niklas and Alissa both had really good runs today. I was also pleased with how Sam and Griffin performed against a good field. We are progressing well and I'm looking forward to running in two weeks at SECs."

Buhner (2nd place, 17:46.50) was Auburn's top finisher in the men's 8k run. The German was joined in the top 10 by Samuel Mueller (4th, 25:38.06) and Griffin Jaworski (7th, 26:08.08).

Auburn's other scorers were Francis Hernandez (28th, 26:46.30) and Jason Miller (32nd, 26:52.64). The Tigers finished with 73 points overall, good for second place behind first-place Georgia Tech (66 points).

Fisher was fourth overall in the women's 5k race with a mark of 17:46.50. Freshman Taylor Duncan (18:24.25) continued her strong freshman campaign with a 20th-place finish.

Erin Fondren (18:30.51) finished in 26th place overall. Sage Blackwell placed 49th in 19:04.53 and in her first race of the season, Danielle Lusk (19:31.09) closed Auburn's scorers with a 57th-place performance.

Auburn finished seventh overall with 156 points. Alabama won the team award with 74 points.
