Oct. 2, 2012

TULSA, Okla. - Auburn junior Daniel Cochrane bounced back Tuesday morning with a win over a top-100 opponent in the qualifying singles consolation draw at the ITA All-American Championships.

Cochrane won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, over Stanford's Matt Kandath on Tuesday. Kandath is ranked 84th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason singles rankings, giving Cochrane his second career victory over a top-100 opponent.

"He played well today," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "He got a little bit match-tougher against a good opponent. Now we'll get ready for doubles on Thursday."

Cochrane will team up with senior Andreas Mies, the nation's 24th-ranked doubles team in the preseason poll, for the first round of the doubles main draw beginning Thursday. Mies, ranked 11th in singles, will also play in the singles main draw Thursday.
