FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Auburn men's tennis team made it a weekend sweep on their initial SEC road trip of the season, defeating Arkansas 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center.

With today's win, 37th-ranked Auburn (10-4, 2-2 SEC) put together an unbeaten conference road weekend along with Friday's 5-2 win at LSU. It marks the first time for the Tigers to win both matches on an SEC road trip since sweeping the same two opponents during the 2007 season. Arkansas fell to 11-7 overall and 0-3 in the SEC.

"It was nice to have a complete weekend with two SEC wins on the road," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "We had to be inside, and we knew that Arkansas would be tough indoors. I thought the doubles did a good job today. Our number one team went up early and battled back after going down a break, and that's what you've got to do. It was nice to get the doubles point. We followed it up with a solid effort in singles. We did a good job of winning a lot of close first sets. That gave us some momentum later in the match. Dennis (Lengsfeld) was down 4-5 and 15-40 in the first set, but he held and went on a run and didn't lose another game. Overall, a successful weekend, and now we get ready for Alabama on Saturday."

The Tigers got on the board early, claiming the doubles point with wins from the top two spots in the lineup. Lucas Lopasso and Dennis Lengsfeld finished first, taking down Gregoire Lehmann and Mike Ward 8-6. Auburn's top-ranked tandem of Andreas Mies and Daniel Cochrane clinched the point with an 8-6 win of their own over Manfred Jeske and Mike Nott. On court three, Joseph Van Dooren and Lukas Ollert were in a tiebreaker with Santiago Munoz and Hall Fess when play was halted.

Ollert won his fifth straight singles match and put the Tigers ahead 2-0 with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Ward, and Mies followed quickly with a win over Lehmann, 6-2, 6-2, to make it 3-0. Van Dooren clinched the victory for the Tigers on court 6, defeating Fess 6-4, 6-4.

Lengsfeld kept the momentum going at the No. 5 singles spot with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Victor Hoang, and Cochrane earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jeske at the No. 2 position to give Auburn a 6-0 lead. Lopasso then fought back to force a third set on court four but fell to Nott as the match went the distance, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Auburn will be back on its home courts next Saturday, March 16, as archrival Alabama visits the Yarbrough Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. match. Admission is free to all Auburn home tennis matches.
