AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three matches after the Tigers shutout the College of Charleston, 3-0, Friday night at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
"We were trying to create urgency in the box," Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said. "We talked about it a lot at halftime and I thought the girls responded really well. I thought Casie's goal was a great near-post run. Overall, I thought the adjustments we made for the final product was really good in the second half."
Auburn controlled possession in the first half, but could not find the back of the net. The Tigers, however, did not waste any time getting started in the final 45 minutes of the match, though.
Auburn scored its first goal of the night from freshman Casie Ramsier in the fifth minute of the second half. Ramsier received a cross from Tori Ball before heading it in from six yards out. The goal was Ramsier's second on the season.
Fifteen minutes later, her twin sister Brooke Ramsier netted her first goal of the season to give Auburn a 2-0 lead. After receiving a center cross from Ball on the right sideline, Ramsier collected the deflection off of the Cougar defender and placed it in the back of the net.
"It was a great effort by both twins with the adjustments made at halftime," Hoppa said. "We hope there is a lot more twin power to come."
Auburn extended its lead to 3-0 with 11:58 remaining as Chelsea Gandy-Cromer earned her second goal of the season. Senior Bianca Sierra sent in the corner, which was initially deflected by College of Charleston's goalkeeper, Eli Sarasola, but was corralled by Gandy-Cromer at the goal line and kicked it.
The Tigers tallied 28 shots in the match along with 12 corners. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Alyse Scott collected her third shutout on the year, making one save on the lone shot from the Cougars.
The Auburn defense of Bianca Sierra, Kala Faulkner and Kiana Clarke anchored the shutout performance, limiting the Cougars' looks at the goal.
Auburn returns to the pitch at 2 p.m. CT, Sunday as the Tigers host Long Beach State. Admission is free. Fans can listen locally on WEGL 91.1 FM or follow online with Web streaming on AuburnTigers.com.
