AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn made it a sweep of Friday's action at the Active Ankle Challenge with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-22) win over Troy at the Student Activities Center.
The Tigers (6-1), who also knocked off Mercer earlier in the day, used a strong service game and a stellar offensive attack up the middle to hold off the Trojans (3-4) for the 15th consecutive time. Seniors Katherine Culwell and Sarah Wroblicky were named to the all-tournament team.
"Troy's a really scrappy team, and they came out in the first set and put a lot of pressure on us," Nold said. "The thing I was really happy to see was that we kept learning how to defend them, making little changes and adjustments as the match went along. We were able to stay in our system and put a lot of pressure on them."
Senior Camila Jersonsky had her best match of the season so far with a 14-kill, 7-block performance while hitting .591 with just one attack error. Culwell turned in her third double-double of the year with 11 kills and 17 digs, and Kathia Rud finished with 13 kills. Freshman Stephanie Campbell also had one of her best performances of the year, posting nine kills and five blocks.
Auburn dominated all statistical categories, putting down 58 kills to Troy's 38, out-hitting the Trojans .204-.105, and recording 77 digs to Troy's 67. The Tigers also had eight service aces and nine blocks in the match.
Troy was led by Cassie Hendricks, who had nine kills. Marija Zelenovic had seven kills and 17 digs, and all-tournament selection Kiah Cheatham had six blocks and four kills.
The Tigers will return to action Monday night on the road at Jacksonville State. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start. Fans can listen live via Auburn All-Access at AuburnTigers.com, and live updates will be available by following @AUVolleyball on Twitter.
