OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 31 Auburn men's tennis opened up SEC play with a historic 4-2 victory on the road at Ole Miss on Friday at Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. The Tigers picked up their first win on the road in Oxford since 1986, snapping a 28-year losing skid.

Freshman Dante Saleh clinched the match for the Tigers (11-4, 1-0 SEC) at No. 5 singles with a comeback win in a three-set match, claiming his 16th victory over the year to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 over the Rebels' Ricardo Jorge.

"I'm very proud of how the guys played tonight," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "To win in Oxford is a tough task to accomplish and we played with great energy to pull this one out on the road."

Auburn started off the match indoors by securing the doubles point with strong play at the top of the lineup card. Dennis Lengsfeld and Lukas Ollert were the first off the court at No. 2 with an 8-6 win. Daniel Cochrane and Oliver Plaskett followed up and added their second win together at 8-5 to seal the point for the Tigers on court one.

In singles with just three courts to play on, No. 119 Cochrane pushed Auburn's lead to 2-0 over Ole Miss (2-4, 0-1 SEC) with a convincing win over Stefan Lindmark 6-3, 6-1. Lengsfeld push the Tigers to just one win away from clinching, taking down the Rebels' William Kallberg 7-5, 6-1.

Auburn would have to wait a bit to get the clincher under its belt. Ole Miss got on the board as No. 118 Ollert fell at No. 1, 6-0, 7-6 (3) to No. 36 Nik Scholtz. The Rebels cut the Tigers lead down to 3-2 as Auburn's Joseph Van Dooren fell in a three-setter on court four 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to Ole Miss' Johan Backstrom.

No. 120 Saleh willed his way to three-set win on court five after dropping the first set. The freshman went on to defeat the Rebels' Jorge 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the match. Auburn's final player on court was Oliver Plaskett, who had split the first two sets with Vinod Gowda from Ole Miss and was up 1-0 when play was abandoned.

The Tigers look to wrap up the road swing during the opening weekend of SEC play by taking on No. 16 Mississippi State on Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville, Miss. Match time is set for 1 p.m. Auburn defeated the Bulldogs last Saturday, 4-1, at the Blue Gray Classic.
