AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's tennis team won its first two matches of 2015, defeating The Citadel 7-0 and 7-0 at the Yarbrough Tennis Complex on Sunday to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The 42nd-ranked Tigers saw dominant play in both singles and doubles on the way to Sunday's sweep.
"I thought we did a pretty good job overall. I am glad we got to play one of the matches outside, because when we get back from Ohio State we are going to be out most of the time," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "We have things to work on and improve. We got to compete and try some combinations in doubles."
Auburn used a variety of combinations in doubles play, and only dropped 11 games out of a potential 36. Marko Krickovic and Dante Saleh began the day in the one spot, defeating Peter Bleach and Nicholas Bradley 6-2 and ended the day with a 6-1 win over Artemie Amari and Oliver Dredding. Joseph Van Dooren and Maxime Hinnisdaels started in the two spot, defeating the team of Amari and Dredding 6-3 before topping the pair of Bleach and Bradley in the top match.
Senior Lukas Ollert had a strong performance at the top spot in both singles matches, defeating Artemie Amari 6-2, 6-4 in the morning session and Peter Bleach 6-0, 6-2 in the afternoon. Dante Saleh did not drop a game in either match, while Joseph Van Dooren dropped only one in the first set of his match with Jackson Pride.
Petar Tomic also played two exciting matches, coming from one set down in the first match to top Oliver Dredding 3-6, 6-4, 7-6. He then defeated Nicholas Bradley 7-5, 6-4 to finish the day out for the Tigers.
Auburn's next match will be in Columbus, Ohio, where the Tigers will face Ohio State to start the ITA Kick-Off weekend.
