AUBURN, Ala. - Keegan Thompson, Cole Lipscomb and Justin Camp combined to strike out 15 Binghamton batters in Auburn's 2-0 shutout win on opening day at Plainsman Park.
The victory was the ninth opening day shutout for Auburn since 1949. The Tigers also recorded a shutout on opening day in 2014.
The offense was provided early by junior outfielder Jordan Ebert when he homered to left center in the first inning. The Tigers added a second run on an RBI single by Blake Logan in the fourth that scored Bo Decker.
Decker finished the game 2-for-4. The home run by Ebert was his first since May 18, 2013 against Arkansas and the fifth of his career.
Ebert is the first Auburn player to homer in his first at-bat of a season since Mike Bianucci vs. East Tennessee State in 2008.
Thompson got the win (1-0) in a pre-determined four inning start. He was followed by Lipscomb in a career-long four inning relief appearance. Thompson tallied five strikeouts and no walks while allowing only one hit.
Lipscomb struck out eight and walked a pair on one hit. Justin Camp earned his first save of the season with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Auburn's 15 strikeouts on Friday were the most for the Tigers since Cole Nelson (12), Bradley Hendrix (3) and Garrett Bush (1) combined to punch out 16 vs. Florida Atlantic on Feb. 28, 2010.
Auburn, which is now 51-16 all-time on opening day and has won five straight season opening games, goes for the series win on Saturday at 3 p.m.
