Results vs. Clemson
AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn's strong start in doubles play and clutch wins in the third set helped Auburn wins its sixth-straight match and seal a 6-1 victory over higher-ranked Clemson on Friday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
"I was happy to see Dante (Saleh) clinch today after last year. He competed much better today than he did last year," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "We could not have started any worse today at 4, 5 and 6 today, but they came back. That is what you have to do to win."
Lukas Ollert and Joseph Van Dooren cruised to a comfortable 6-1 win over Clemson's Christian Harris and Hampton Drake on court two. On court one, Marko Krickovic and Oliver Plaskett clinched the doubles point for Auburn, winning 6-4 over Alejandro Augusto and Hunter Harrington.
No. 108 Maxime Hinnisdaels won Auburn's first singles match of the day, easily defeating Austin Ansari 6-1, 6-1 in the third spot. The win was Hinnisdaels' 19th victory of the season, the most on the team thuse far. 78th-ranked Lukas Ollert also played a tough match at number one, but took down 90th-ranked Hunter Harrington 7-6 (9-7), 6-4
Auburn saw four of its next six matches go into three sets each. Dante Saleh got behind early to Hampton Drake in the four spot, but defeated the Clemson freshman in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Joseph Van Dooren took his match 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 over Luke Johnson, while 108th-ranked Marko Krickovic outlasted Alejandro Augusto 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 to finish out the day for Auburn.
The No. 38 Tigers, now 8-1, host No. 75 Georgia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. No. 34 Clemson is now 5-4 on the year.
