AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn evened its SEC record in a 4-0 loss to No. 7 Georgia Saturday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
"We didn't execute well enough today to beat a team like that," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "We had a slow start in doubles, so they got on us early. I felt good going into singles, but we didn't play well enough in our first sets. When Max won his first set, it seemed like we were fighting back, but in the end it wasn't enough."
Georgia won the doubles point, with victories at the number two and three slots. Seniors Nathan Pasha and Eric Diaz of Georgia defeated Lukas Ollert and Joseph Van Dooren 6-3 in the second position, and then Georgia's Wayne Montgomery and Paul Oosterbaan topped Maxime Hinnisdaels and Dante Saleh 6-2 in the third spot to clinch the point.
In singles, Auburn was defeated at one, four and six. In the top spot, No. 17 Wayne Montgomery handed Auburn's Lukas Ollert his first singles loss of the spring, 6-3, 6-3. At four, Georgia's Nick Wood defeated Dante Saleh 6-2, 6-4, and at six, the Bulldogs' Peter Bertran was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Oliver Plaskett.
The No. 28 Tigers, now 11-3 and 1-1 in SEC play, were facing their sixth consecutive nationally ranked opponent. Georgia is now 9-2 and 2-0 in SEC action.
Auburn returns to action Sunday, March 8, in a 1 p.m. CT match at No. 16 Vanderbilt. The Tigers return home Friday, March 13, hosting Alabama.
