AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 4 Auburn equestrian team fell to No. 2 South Carolina, 11-7, Saturday at the One Wood Farm in Blythewood, S.C.

"We are still struggling with penalty points on the Western side, and that is keeping us out of the winner's circle," head coach Greg Williams said. "Katsy (Leeman) had a great ride in Reining, but we need a lot more backup from others. This was a team that our same set of Western riders beat handily in the fall. Hunt Seat had another great day on the road against a really strong squad. Both just need to be hitting strong on the same day."

Junior Elizabeth Benson moved to 9-0 on the season in Equitation Over Fences, defeating Samantha Kraus, 76-73. With the win, Benson ties Maggie McAlary's 33 career victories in the event, which ranks second in program history.

In her first-career meet, sophomore Jacqueline Shilen earned a 70-69 victory over Samantha Smith in Fences.

Auburn moved to 6-3 on the year in Equitation on the Flat, defeating the Gamecocks, 3-2. Senior Jennifer Delman topped Samantha Smith, 65-61, before Benson defeated Katherine Schmidt, 58-55. Sophomore Ashley Foster scored a 64, bettering Samantha Kraus' 53.

In Reining, senior Katsy Leeman earned MOP honors, defeating Kara Guertin, 71-69, and freshman Alexa Rivard edged out Cody McMillion, 65.5-65

Auburn (4-5, 1-4 SEC) will host its final home meet of season March 7 against Baylor at 1 p.m. CT.
