The No. 4 Auburn equestrian team defeated New Mexico State, 11-8, Friday in Las Cruces, N.M. The Tigers (6-5) took three of the four events and earned two MOP honors. "We love road wins," head coach Greg Williams said. "We should be in great shape for another road game tomorrow. We won three of the four events today and two Most Outstanding Player awards, so all of that makes for a great day." Auburn got out to an early 3-0 lead in Equitation on the Flat as sophomore Tory Hoft, junior Elizabeth Benson and senior Jennifer Delman posted victories. Hoft defeated Shannon Dooley, 80-71, while Benson downed Chelsea Brady, 72-71. Delman earned her fifth victory of the season, topping Elizabeth Solomon, 80-79. In Reining, junior Griffin Knight defeated Marissa Bartmann, 67-64.5, and junior Allie Dusha scored a 69, bettering Jaimie Story's 67. Junior Hannah Loseke earned MOP honors in Horsemanship, edging out Lauren DeVoe, 78-77. Sophomore Hannah Stephens defeated Rianna Storey, 76-75, and senior Lucy Igoe notched her seventh victory of the season, defeating Morgan Matzdorff, 75-73. Benson was named MOP in Equitation over Fences following her 83-81 victory over Elizabeth Solomon. The win gives the Whitehouse Station, N.J., native 35 career wins in the event, tying Jennifer Waxman for most all-time in school history. Senior Demi Stiegler defeated Amber Tassel, 75-42, and sophomore Ashley Foster closed the meet with an 81-62 win over Cori Cromwell. The Tigers will close the regular season Saturday at Texas A&M at 11 a.m. CT. |
