COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Junior outfielder Sam Gillikin hit his first career home run on Sunday as Auburn baseball fell 6-1 to No. 6 Texas A&M on Sunday.
The Tigers (13-7, 0-3) struck first for the third-straight game on Gillikin's first career home run. The blast sailed over the right field fence and gave Auburn a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning.
The junior from Hoover, Ala. was 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Auburn.
Texas A&M (21-0, 3-0) got to Auburn starter Trey Wingenter in the sixth inning for three runs with the big hit a two-run single by Mitchell Nau where he was thrown out by Gillikin trying to advance to second.
The Aggies (21-0, 3-0) added another run in the frame to take a 4-1 lead.
Wingenter, who had cruised through the first five innings, allowed four runs with five strikeouts and took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season.
Cole Lipscomb (3 H, 1 BB, 3 K) tossed 1.2 innings in relief while not allowing a run. Justin Camp pitched the final inning and allowed two runs as Auburn fell behind 6-1.
Anfernee Grier singled in the third inning to give hit a hit in 19-of-20 games this season.
Auburn is in action next on Tuesday when it travels to face UAB at Regions Field in Birmingham.
