Results vs. Florida
AUBURN, Ala. - No. 45 Auburn took the doubles point over No. 20 Florida but it was not enough as the Gators took four straight singles matches to win the match 4-1 on Saturday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
"You have to give Florida credit. They did not panic after doubles," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "We have to be better at the top of the lineup and we were not today. We need everybody playing well and we were not getting that. You are not going to beat a team like that if you are not ready and you are not battling."
Auburn earned two victories over ranked doubles tandems to clinch its first SEC doubles point since the SEC opener against South Carolina on February 26. Marko Krickovic and Lukas Ollert tied the doubles point at one match apiece on court one, defeating 42nd-ranked Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson 6-3.
Maxime Hinnisdaels and Joseph Van Dooren clinched the point in dramatic fashion, taking 62nd-ranked doubles pair Joshua Wardell and Oliver Landert to a tiebreaker and winning 7-6 (7-3)
In singles, Florida took five of the first six sets in singles play. Auburn's only first-set win came from Dante Saleh, who won 6-4 over Chase Perez-Blanco. The Gators went on to win matches on courts one, two, five and six to finish out the match.
Auburn falls to 14-8 after the loss while Florida improves to 10-6.
Auburn's next match will be at No. 9 Texas A&M on Friday at 5 p.m. The Tigers then return home on Sunday to take on No. 24 LSU on senior day. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. and admission is free.
