BATON ROUGE, La. - Anfernee Grier had two doubles to extend his SEC-leading total to 16, but Auburn baseball fell to LSU 3-2 on Friday at Alex Box Stadium.

"Things didn't go our way tonight," Auburn head coach Sunny Golloway said. "But our kids fought their tails off. There were a couple of runs that shouldn't have been up there, then we had an opportunity with first and second. There are a few things that made a big difference in this ball game."

Auburn (20-14, 4-9) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI double from Blake Logan and a run-scoring single from Bo Decker. Grier scored the first run after a double.

The RBI was the first for Decker since February 18. He made his first start since February 21.

LSU (30-5, 9-4) wasted no time tying the game in the bottom half of the first with the big hit a RBI double by Kade Scivicque. The Bayou Bengals took a 3-2 lead in the second on a two-out RBI hit by Mark Laird.

Laird finished with three hits.

Auburn's Lipscomb (4-1) took a tough loss with three runs (one earned) allowed in seven innings. He struck out five with three walks. It was his second quality start of the season and third in three SEC starts.

Grier added another double in the fourth, to increase his SEC-best total to 16 for the season.

Jared Poche' (5.2 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 5 K) improved to 6-1 on the season for LSU. Hunter Newman earned his first save of the season.

Sophomore left-hander Izaac Yarbrough worked a perfect inning for Auburn, his sixth-straight outing without allowing a run.

Friday's game was delayed by more than two hours due to extensive rain in the Baton Rouge area.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
