AUBURN, Ala. - Sophomore right-hander Cole Lipscomb tossed his first career complete game on Friday as Auburn baseball defeated Ole Miss 3-1 in the opening game of the series at Plainsman Park.

"Every outing [Lipscomb] seems to get a little better and be able to go a little deeper," Auburn head coach Sunny Golloway said. "I was glad to see him finish it. It got a little tight and we got a little worried. We had a lefty and a righty in the pen. I wish we didn't have to even get them up, but he was able to get it done."

Lipscomb struck out a career-high 10 and allowed just one run. The win improved the Prattville, Ala. native to 5-1 on the season.

Damon Haecker provided most of the offense with RBI singles in the second and fifth innings. Auburn (24-15, 6-10) also got a run as Melvin Gray came into score on an error in the third.

Haecker led the Tigers with a 3-for-4 night at the plate. He had two RBIs for third multi-RBI game of the season. Gray added two hits.

Will Golsan had three hits for the Rebels.

Ole Miss (19-19, 7-9) scored its lone run in the ninth on a ground out by Henri Latigue.

Rebel starter Christian Trent (L, 5-4) allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits in six innings.

Auburn's Kyler Deese extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the fifth inning.

Auburn and Ole Miss will wrap the series on Saturday with a doubleheader set for 12 p.m. Tickets for game 27 (Sunday game) are good for the 12 p.m. game, while game 26 tickets (Saturday game) are good for the scheduled mid-afternoon game.
