COLUMBIA, S.C. - Auburn baseball fell 10-1 to South Carolina on Friday in the series opener at Carolina Stadium.
South Carolina's Kyle Martin had a career high seven RBIs including a grand slam and a two-run home run to pace the Gamecocks.
Jack Wynkoop (W, 7-4) pitched eight innings and allowed just one run on eight hits for South Carolina. The lefthander struck out 10 with no walks.
Auburn (30-17, 10-12) and South Carolina traded runs in the third inning with the Tigers getting on board on a RBI single from Daniel Robert that plated Anfernee Grier.
Grier was 3-for-4 to post his 22nd multi-hit game of the season.
The Gamecocks (27-19, 10-12) responded in the bottom half with a bases loaded single by Elliott Caldwell.
South Carolina took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on Martin's two-run home run.
Cole Lipscomb (6-2) took the loss for Auburn with three runs allowed in six innings. He had five strikeouts and three walks.
The Gamecocks added two more in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Martin and a run-scoring triple by Caldwell. Carolina made it 10-1 in the eighth with a RBI single by Logan Koch followed by Martin's grand slam.
The series continues on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by SEC Network.
