CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The Auburn men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Panorama Farms Invite for the third year in a row on Saturday.
The women finished third with 106 points behind No. 15 Virginia (30 points) and Mississippi State (83 points). Freshman Brenda Kigen led the way for the Tigers with a six-place finish and covered the 5k course in 17:10.4.Junior Veronica Eder finished 14th in 17:30.4 and sophomore Molly McKenna placed 16th in 17:33.3. Junior Rachel Givens finished 28th at 18:00.1 and junior Taylor Duncan was 45th in 18:25.3 to round out the scoring five for the women.
"Overall a good performance for the ladies finishing third against some competitive teams and we now we have an opportunity to regroup before the month of October when the championship season begins," head coach Mark Carroll said. "Brenda ran especially well finishing sixth overall and first among freshman. On the men's side it was a great experience to race against nationally ranked teams and we handled that challenge well with some near personal-best performances."
The men scored 186 points and finished seventh. No. 9 Virginia won the meet with 41 points, while Oklahoma was second with 58 and No. 18 Furman in third with 88 points.
Senior Redatu Semeon was the Tigers first finisher in 24th place with a time of 24:38.3 for the 8k course. Sophomore Coleman Churitch (30th in 24:46.0), sophomore Kevin Wyss (46th in 25:06.8), freshman Reilly Shaw (48th in 25:08.2) and sophomore Mitchell Gomez (53rd in 25:18.5) were the Tigers remaining scorers.
The Tigers will return to action October 3 at JSU Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Ala.
