COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Freshman Brenda Kigen led the way for the Auburn women's cross country team on Friday at the SEC Championships, finishing fourth with a time of 19:58.1. Kigen's finish is the best by an Auburn female since 2010, when Holly Knight placed second.

"Brenda had an amazing performance," head coach Mark Carroll said. "To finish in fourth place in a competitive conference race as a freshman is absolutely spectacular. We had a strong performance by the women's team to improve on last year's finish. Redatu (Semeon) had a great run to finish in the top-20 and Reilly (Shaw) ran well too for the men. We will get back to work next week and get prepared for the NCAA Regional in a few weeks' time."

The women's team finished sixth with 164 points, as junior Veronica Eder finished 28th with a time of 20:43.1. Junior Rachel Givens finished 31st at 20:49.7, and sophomore Molly McKenna placed 53rd at 21:23.2. Junior Emily Stevens closed out the scoring in 58th place with a time of 21:31.3.

The men's team placed eighth with 197 points, led by senior Redatu Semeon, who finished 20th with a time of 24:14.5. Freshman Reilly Shaw earned All-SEC Freshman Team honors after finishing 34th at 24:39.5. Sophomores Mitchell Gomez and Kevin Wyss placed 39th at 24:44.7 and 46th at 24:51.6, respectively. Sophomore Coleman Churitch clocked a 25:07.6 to finish 64th.

Auburn returns to action on Nov. 13 at the NCAA South Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
