Kasey Cooper named Academic All-American

AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn's Kasey Cooper has been named to the 2016 Academic All-America Division I softball first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) the organization announced on Thursday.

Cooper was one of five repeat selections as she became the first Tiger to earn First Team Academic All-American honors in 2015. The junior maintains a 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering and was one of four student-athletes with a perfect mark.

The native from Dothan, Ala. has enjoyed a stellar year on the diamond earning espnW Player of the Year, ASA/USA Softball Top 3 Finalist for Player of the Year, NFCA First Team All-Region, SEC softball Player of the year, SEC First Team and SEC All-Defensive honors.

She has also been recognized for her work in the classroom being selected as the SEC softball Scholar Athlete of the Year, the award she is most proud of to date.

The starting third baseman has tied the school record for home runs in a season (19) this campaign while setting program records for slugging, OBP and walks in a season. Cooper already holds Auburn career records for batting average (.412), slugging (.805), OBP (.546), home runs (55). RBI (216), walks (155).

This is the fourth time Auburn has had an Academic All-American selection and third in the last two years under head coach Clint Myers (Paige Jones, 2005, Cooper and Tiffany Howard, 2015).
