Dec. 31, 2016 AUBURN, Ala. - Senior third baseman Kasey Cooper and freshman outfielder Alyssa Rivera are set to showcase their talents at the 2017 USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) Selection Camp.
Cooper, an invitee for the senior women's national team, will participate in a five-day in Clearwater, Fla., Jan. 1-5. The Dothan, Ala. native has the chance to return to the roster as she was a member of the 2016 team that won the World Championship for the first time in six years and took silver at the World Cup of Softball.
"Competing against the best brings out the best," stated Cooper, who is one of only 43 to receive an invite to take part in the prestigious camp. She is the only player in program history to make the official national roster.
Rivera, who was invited to take part in the 2017 Junior Women's National Team (JWNT) Selection Camp, will share the same location as Cooper in Clearwater, Fla., Dec. 31-Jan. 1.
"I'm looking forward to a great opportunity with Team USA," said Rivera. "I hope to have a great experience with some of the best players and coaches in the country."
The Eagle Lake, Fla. native will be joined by freshman Justus Perry, who has chosen to participate in open tryouts.
During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the USA Softball WNT Selection Committee
Should the three Tigers make either roster, they will have the chance to compete at the Pan American Games/World Baseball Softball Confederation World Championship Qualifier in Florida in July.
