AUBURN, Ala. -- For the third consecutive year, Auburn third baseman Kasey Cooper has been named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced by the organization Thursday.
Cooper headlines the 2017 Division I softball first team as a mechanical engineering major with a 3.98 GPA. She was also selected to the 2015 and 2016 squads and is the first player in program history to be honored as an Academic All-American three times.
She received the highest honors and was named the Academic All-America Player of the Year. Cooper will now be in contention for Academic All-American of the Year across all sports in a fan vote this summer.
Cooper is also the first back-to-back SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year choice in the Auburn record books and is the only the second player in league history to repeat as the conference's top scholar-athlete.
A native of Dothan, Ala., Cooper holds the SEC record for career RBI (269) and is one of only two student-athletes in conference history with 250 hits and 250 RBI in her career.
A three-time All-American and recipient of the 2016 NCAA Elite 90 Award, Cooper was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Southeast Region selection this season, becoming the first four-time all-region honoree in school history.
Cooper is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, while also earning Second-Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team accolades this year, her fourth consecutive all-conference citation and third all-defensive honor in a row.
With Cooper's selection, the Auburn softball program has had four Academic All-American choices in the last three seasons under head coach Clint Myers.
