AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Senior right-hander Cole Lipscomb was named the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District team the organization announced Thursday as it recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
A native of Prattville, Ala., Lipscomb holds a 4.00 grade point average in information systems as he works toward a second undergraduate degree after earning a bachelor's in finance in May 2016.
On the mound, Lipscomb has pitched in 16 games in 2017 with a 2.57 ERA. He holds a 4-0 record with a team-best five saves. The senior has struck out 30 in 35.0 innings and is holding opponents to a .200 batting average.
Lipscomb is a two-time honoree after being named a 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-American. Auburn has had 10 players earn Academic All-American honors in program history.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
