Cole Lipscomb named CoSIDA Academic All-American

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn senior right-handed pitcher Cole Lipscomb was named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team, it was announced this weekend by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A native of Prattville, Ala., Lipscomb holds a 4.00 grade point average in information systems as he works toward a second undergraduate degree after earning a bachelor's in finance in May 2016.

On the mound, Lipscomb has posted a 4-0 record and a team-leading six saves in 22 appearances. He carries a 3.42 earned run average and has struck out 40 batters in 47.1 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .225 batting average.

Lipscomb is a two-time honoree as Academic All-American, also earning the distinction in 2015 as a second-team selection. He is Auburn's fifth all-time first-team honoree and the first since Casey Dunn in 1999.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
