AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Trailing by two with under 20 minutes to go, the No. 10 Auburn soccer team netted two goals to complete the comeback before drawing with Lipscomb in overtime. The Tigers (1-0-1) held a decisive 25-7 advantage in shots.
"I'm really proud of my team to fight to end," said head coach Karen Hoppa. "I was a little frustrated with our first half. I thought we didn't perform well, but I was really proud of the fight."
Rocio Sanders scored her first career goal, while Courtney Schell secured her second goal in as many matches to open the season. Kristen Dodson tallied an assist in the fixture.
Ten players registered at least one shot for Auburn, while six racked up multiple attempts, led by Bri Folds with six.
Sarah Le Beau made three saves across the 110 minutes of play.
Despite outshooting the Bisons (0-1-1) by an 8-3 margin, the Tigers trailed 1-0 at the break after Lipscomb broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute.
The road squad doubled its margin five minutes into the second half in one of its only three chances in the final 45 minutes of regular time.
Auburn clawed back into the match in the 72nd minute when Schell collected a loose ball, dribbled past a defender and fired a laser from 25 yards out that beat the opposing goalie.
Down to their last breath, the Tigers found life in the 89th minute. With just 30 seconds remaining and staring defeat in the eyes, Dodson jockeyed for a ball and played a through ball that found the feet of Sanders.
As the goalie came off the line, Sanders flicked the ball over her head on her first touch that nestled into far-post corner to tie the match and sent the stadium into jubilation.
After the 90 minutes, the teams entered two overtime sessions that saw four chances by Auburn, including one corner.
The best chance of extra time fell to the feet of Folds who curled a shot from just outside of the box that beat the goalkeeper, but was cleared off the line by a Lipscomb defender.
Neither team was able find the back of the net, ending the match at 2-2.
The Tigers hit the road for their next match of 2017 when they travel to No. 13 Clemson, Aug. 25. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.
