AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn's Marlon Davidson was named the Defensive Lineman of the Week by the SEC on Monday. The sophomore defensive end recorded four tackles and one tackle for loss in Saturday's 51-14 win at Missouri to open conference play.
But Davidson's most memorable play came on a fumble recovery during the second quarter. Teammate Jeff Holland hit the quarterback as he was going to throw the ball. Everybody on the field thought it was an incomplete pass except Davidson. He picked up the loose football and returned it 33 yards deep into Missouri territory to set up another touchdown.
"When I saw that bag (from the referee) on the ground, I just took off and went and got the ball," Davidson said after the game. "Just making a good play at a good time."
Davidson sat out the previous game due to injury, but in the three games he's played, he now has 11 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble and the one fumble recovery.
Last year, Davidson was named to the SEC All-Freshman team by the league's coaches.
