AUBURN, Ala. - After leading the Auburn back line in a pair of impressive conference performances, redshirt senior defender Caroline Bado has been named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week.
The recognition comes a day after Bado was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. Additionally, it marks the second straight week a member of the Tigers (5-3-2, 2-0-1 SEC) has been named to the national team as Hannah Alspach earned the honors last Tuesday.
"We had two great games defensively last week, and Caroline is clearly the leader of our back line," head coach Karen Hoppa said. "Her defensive performance was dominant against both teams, and we are excited for her efforts to be recognized by the conference."
Coming off a draw at No. 21 Tennessee and a dominating win against Kentucky, Bado and the Auburn defense allowed just four shots on frame in their two contests last week.
The Tampa, Fla., native shut down one of the SEC's top scorers in Tennessee's Khadija Shaw last Thursday, limiting her to just two shots, including zero on frame. Three days later, she led the Tigers to their fourth shutout of the season and second in SEC play as Auburn defeated Kentucky, 3-0.
Bado has paced an Auburn back line that has allowed just one goal in its first three SEC matches. It marks the first time since 2004 and just the second time in program history this feat has been accomplished.
As a team, Auburn ranks tied for second in the SEC in goals allowed, goals against average and shutouts during conference games. Individually, Bado has been a constant presence for the Tigers' back line as she is one of two members of the Orange and Blue to play in every minute of every match this season.
