OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Former Auburn softball players Emily Carosone and Kasey Cooper made the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball's initial list of invitees for the 2018 USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp.
The five-day camp is set to take place Jan. 1-5, 2018 at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
Carosone and Cooper will vie for spots on the 2018 USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) roster, which will compete at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's World Championship in Chiba, Japan Aug. 2-12, 2018, the World Cup of Softball XIII and select invitational events.
Cooper, who accepted her third consecutive invite, has made the national team the past two seasons. She was a key member of the squad that captured gold at the 2016 WBSC Women's World Championship, the 10th title in Team USA history.
Carosone earned her first invitation after back-to-back successful seasons playing with the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch league.
The former Tigers are two of just 56 players to accept the prestigious invite at the annual camp.
During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC).
