Auburn cross country heads to Crimson Classic

AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn cross country will compete at the Crimson Classic hosted by Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Friday. The men will run an 8k while the women will run the 6k.

The event is the final run for the Tigers prior to the SEC Championships in Athens, Ga., Oct. 27.

The women's team enters the event ranked 6th in the USTFCCA South Region rankings while the men check in at No. 7.

Auburn is one of 35 teams competing in the event that includes fellow SEC members host-Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, South Carolina (women only) and Vanderbilt, as well as Middle Tennessee State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Memphis and Oklahoma.

Seniors Kevin Wyss, Coleman Churitch, Wesley Curles, Mitchell Gomez and Jay Spieler will look to lead the men's squad to another strong finish following an impressive outing at the Louisville Cross Country Classic where they averaged 24:53.54 in the 8k. Wyss, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., clocked a 24:31.25 to lead the team for the third time this season.

Junior Brenda Kigen will look to have another outstanding outing following a 13th place finish at the Louisville Cross Country Classic where she ran a 16:55.21 6k. The Eldoret, Kenya, product is the lone upperclassman amongst a talented crop of sophomores and freshmen that will run the course on Friday.
